We want to build our lives upon our virtues. This is human, and this is good.

God wants to build upon our failures and mistakes. This is heavenly, and this is great.

The sign could read “Construction Zone – God at work”

  2. I don’t know Vince. ‘A virtuous woman who can find?’ When the woman touched the Lord, she perceived that ‘virtue’ had come out of Him; both very good situations.

Maybe to the degree that we do not repeat our mistakes I would agree, but I’m guessing the more we strive to be Christlike, the failures should diminish. Either way, we rejoice in good and bad, maybe that’s the point.

I do know though, that a very neglected ministry is one of suffering, where we are ‘in a hurry’ to go through a hardship, and thus miss the refinement of the Lord.

Maybe you could develop the thought further lest I misunderstand.

In Matthew 16, Peter proclaims Jesus to be the Messiah and the Son of God. For us, this means salvation from our sins. Christ builds his church upon this rock. Our walk of faith must be one of constant repentance.

We will always fall short of loving God the way he deserves to be loved.

Yes, we should try to improve ourselves, but the focus should be on Christ’s redemptive work.

But we are all like an unclean thing,
      And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
      Have taken us away.

      Isaiah 64:6

      • Isaiah good verse, but I doubt that Paul’s ‘new’ righteousnesses are filthy rags, in the respect that they were initiated by the Spirit of God. His life in Adam yes, they were that, but in Christ, they are a sweet savor unto God.

I would hope that would be true of us as well, but truly apart from Christ we are but dead men and unclean. I do not view christians however as unclean if they are walking with the Lord.

        Surely you agree.

It seems like we are saying the same thing, just from different perspectives. We are indeed, washed clean only by the blood of Christ.

        Thank you for your insight!

Aw, this was a really good post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to make a superb
article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get anything
